Free! Donations Welcomed

The San Francisco Mime Troupe is the oldest political theater group in the US.

This year’s show focuses on the problems many people face in during the economic crisis. Workers are being laid off. Workplaces are closing, and plants are being moved to places where workers’ wages are lower. What to do? That is the question the workers in this play confront. It isn’t just a question confronting workers in the U.S. One worker in the US factory moved from a similar situation in Argentina – only to confront the same problems.

Join the Chabot and Hayward community for an evening like you haven’t experienced before. The Mime Troupe is NOT silent. Their songs, the comedy and drama will involve and move you like no other theater.

Sponsored by the Chabot College Students for Social Justice and other clubs and individuals at Chabot College

To help with publicity and the show, contact ChabotSSJ@gmail.com or Kip Waldo ext. 6980 (We need help getting the word out to local high schools – a great opportunity for our students to revisit their schools and teachers, posting in coffee shops, libraries etc. And the day of the event there is a wonderful opportunity to experience setting up the stage and seeing how the show comes together.)

Chabot College Presents “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on Campus – Plus Free Show at Hayward Meek Estate Park

(Hayward, CA) – Chabot College’s Theater Department is serving up a midsummer treat for area theater goers.
Audiences will have six opportunities to see performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” William Shakespeare’s play about young love and romance. Shows are Wednesday through Saturday, July 28-31 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, August 1 at 2 p.m., in the Little Theater at Chabot College, with $8 tickets at the door. A free performance is offered at the Hayward Meek Estate Park on Saturday, August 7 at 1 p.m.

One of the Bard’s most popular romantic comedies, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” mixes magic, mischief, and mistaken identities in an enchanted, moonlit forest populated by two pairs of star-crossed lovers, feuding fairies, and a comically inept acting troupe. The misadventures that ensue inspire the character Puck to muse, “Lord, what fools these mortals be!” A recent film adaptation of this classic comedy starred Michelle Pfeiffer, Rupert Everett, Calista Flockhart, Christian Bale, Stanley Tucci, and Kevin Kline.

“A talented group of actors and designers have brought this show together,” said director Dov Hassan, Chabot College theater arts instructor. “Sound, lights, set, and costumes are being designed and produced by students. I think their work is the most impressive student design work I have seen in the 10 years I have been working here at Chabot.”

Chabot’s College’s free Meek Estate performance is being produced in partnership with the Hayward Area Historical Society and the Hayward Area Parks and Recreation District. The estate is located at 240 Hampton Road. The Chabot College Little Theater is in the Performing Arts Center at the corner of Hesperian Blvd. and Depot Road. Lot G offers the closest parking. Except for Saturday evening and Sunday, parking permits are required; $2 day permits are available at dispensers located at light pole locations. For more information, please call (510) 723-6976 or visit the website at www.chabotcollege.edu.

Chabot College Adds Fall Semester Welding Classes

(Hayward, CA) – Chabot College has good news for students who want to take welding classes this fall semester.
Due to a campus construction schedule change, previously cancelled classes now will be offered in the college’s popular welding program. “I can’t recommend the welding program at Chabot enough. There’s no other place where I can learn from instructors with decades of experience, on equipment costing tens of thousands of dollars for only $26 per unit,” says student Jeremy Adams on the Chabot College Welding Department website.

Fall semester welding classes include Introduction to Welding, Welding Layout and Fitting, ARC/Flux Core/Blueprint, TIG/MIG, Welding Inspection, Skills Laboratory, Certification Preparation, and Welding for Artists. Class meeting times include day, evening, and Saturdays.

“The U.S. Department of Labor lists more than 75 occupational titles that include some form of welding or welding-related activity. Basic welding skills are necessary across many industries; this applicability allows the welding workforce to swiftly respond in accommodating new emerging industry needs. It is estimated that 30,000 to 55,000 new welders are needed each year in the United States to meet the rising industrial demands,” according to the Welding Department website.

Students can register now for the fall semester that begins August 18.  For more information, visit the welding website at www.chabotcollege.edu/WELD/. Apply and register online at www.chabotcollege.edu.
